Apple Pay doesn’t register at the register

Ever since I bought my iPhone 11 Pro Max, I’ve had an issue with the Apple Pay device functionality essentially being broken. It worked perfectly on my iPhone 8. Cards were properly connect to apple wallet, and when it was time to pay at any register, I put the phone up to the reader and boom, paid.

My iPhone 11 Pro Max has never worked in this capacity. When it’s time to pay, I bring up the wallet cards, pick a card, then it reads my face, and says “hold next to reader” or whatever, and it literally doesn’t do anything. Doesn’t register at all.

This is my issue. Is it possible that the cards aren’t properly installed (or whatever) into the wallet? It’s possible, however they work just fine with online purchases.

Is it possible the hardware on this phone was defective from the factory?
