phone app high battery usage

As of yesterday my phone is suddenly draining rapidly. I used to go through the day with a minimum of 70% power remaining. This is an iPhone 8 with a two year old battery.

Under Settings>Battery it says that the Phone app is using 65% of the power. The thing is I never use the phone to make phone calls. The other apps all look like they are using normal amounts of power.

Today on my 20 minute walk to work the phone is now down to 90%. I have it charging for 15 minutes now, and the percentage remains at 90%.

Any suggestions on what I can do to get the phone app to behave properly? I've got the latest update, and I've cycled power.

Thanks!

velvetlounger ~ Besides being a safety risk, that fake battery could suddenly fail completely and not allow you to prepare the iPhone for a genuine battery replacement.

The battery was replaced mid 2021. So two year old battery. the phone does not show the capacity remaining.

The battery meter shows that the phone was at 50%, then shut down, and after that it started consuming power.

Today I shut of the cell radio, and the phone stopped discharging quickly. I left the radio off all day, and now that ive turned it back on it seems to be back to normal. Strange.

Yes a qualified tech, but obviously not a genuine battery as the phone won't report battery status. However, I've had two years of perfect function. Only to have it go from 50% to 0% instantly.

but like i said. I turned off the cell radio and that seemed to fix it. The phone was reporting that the phone app was using 65% of the battery, and I never use the phone. So something was keeping the phone app cranking away doing who knows what.

The phone has been operating normally for the last two days now. I barely get to 70% by the time I go to bed.

Thanks all!
