Samsung ML-1640 laser printer works fine with High Sierra but cannot be installed in Monterey - anyone managed to solve this?
Mac mini, macOS 12.6
This works for my Samsung ML-1675:
0. As always do a backup, just in case!
1. Connect Samsung ML-1675 printer via USB and turn it ON.
2. Download and install Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 (Driver Version: 1.03.02) from Apple Support:
-> SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg
Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X
That installer works on macOS 10.5-10.14 (although macOS 10.14 does not show the Supply Levels).
-> On macOS 11-13 Big Sur - Ventura you must install those drivers via Pacifist 4 (~ $24€) because the old installer does not work on newer macOS ("This volume does not the requirements for this update.").
-> Install everything:
Pacifist > File > Open Package... > [choose SamsungPrinterDrivers.dmg] > [select "SamsungPrinterDrivers.pkg"] > File > Install Files to Default Locations > [Replace (or Update) all files that already exist]
3. System Preferences > Printers & Scanners > [optionally ctrl-click in the left panel "Reset printing system..."] > + > click "Samsung ML-1670 Series" > Use: Choose a driver... Select Software... > select "Samsung ML-1860 Series" > OK > "Add" the printer > OK.

Thanks for your reply ... works with ML-1630 ... but looking for something not requiring 3rd party software. I can run the printer on Monterey with virtual High Sierra in VMware ... just cannot understand why Samsung or Apple have not addressed this? thanks again ...
Actually finds the printer in VMware but does not natively install the driver so that it works ¿¿¿ ... really annoying ... there must be a driver that works with this printer? ... that is why I have been with Apple since SE30 days (yea I am that old) ... this is beginning to look like Vista issues ... even more annoying works fine with windows 11 ¿¿¿ ... going for reprogramming now LOL
I had the same problem with a Samsung ML-1630 but this solution worked! Big thanks!
Thanks M ... will try that at some point ... before the toner runs out ... thanks again
