Don't turn off Find My

It makes your phone more vulnerable since it can't be located AND can't be disabled or remotely wiped so the miscreants won't get your stuff.

The phone can only be tracked by you or someone YOU have granted access to track it. Miscreants, as you say cannot track your iPhone via Find My, unless you gave them permissions to track your phone.

iPhone is virtually unable to be hacked. Period.

Find My Phone can only be tracked by you on a computer or alternate device once you have authenticated with your AppleID, or by relatives/friends you have explicitly shared your location once they have authenticated with their AppleID.

As always, be sure to use a secure AppleID passphrase, share it with no one and turn on Two Factor Authentication.
