You don't Bluetooth pair your iPhone and MacBook Air for Airdrop. Bluetooth needs to be turned on but the devices are not paired. See the instructions in Use AirDrop on your Mac - Apple Support including the following excerpt:

Make sure that both devices are within 30 feet (9 meters) of each other and have Wi-Fi and Bluetooth turned on.

There are other instructions in that support article that may help, including in the "If you can't see the other device in AirDrop" section.
