When I go to settings to hook up my iPad to my iPhone cellular internet, the phone calls my iPhone “iPhone (8)”. This number started at 2 after I bought it and now is up to 8. What does this mean?

On my iPad, in settings, when I look at WiFi and switch to my cellular signal on my phone, the phone is listed as iPhone (8). This started at (2) after I bought it and it has gone up to now (8) after a couple months. Are there other phone connected to my phone? I don’t have 8 separate devices.

Thanks

Perhaps you have restored your iPhone from a backup in the period that it has been owned. In some circumstances, the device name associated with the backup will be numerically incremented when restored.

You can easily modify (or completely change) the active name for the iPhone from iPhone settings:

Settings > General > About > Name - edit as required
