Battery drain from Find My

My iPhone SE 2022 battery has been draining quite rapidly at idle for the past month. I started using the iPhone since April 2022 and the battery was fine until January 2023. It now drains about 20-25% at idle overnight. Before January 2023, the overnight battery drain is about 1-5%. The battery settings show that "Find My" is taking up 100% of the battery at idle. After some online searches, I have tried 4 things:

1. Updated to the latest iOS (iOS 16.3 at the time of writing)

2. Turn off Find My for a few days

3. Turn off bluetooth at idle

4. Reset the iPhone

None of these things made the battery any better. I do not own any AirTags. I also notice that Find My remains a top three battery hog when I'm just looking at email, checking my calendar, or other simple tasks. I've always had Find My on until I tried turning it off for a few days. Find My still shows battery usage despite turning it off.

Can anyone offer any other fixes?

Thanks for reaching out whozdabest,

It sounds like you've associated a battery use with the Find My app. We can help.

Consider that the Find My app means that GPS and data are in use to track your device, so that should you search for your iPhone it can be found. It is expected that while these features are active they will consume more battery than when they are turned off.

While it doesn't seem like a significant amount from what you're describing when you consider it is running in the background all the time, if you find that you'd like to turn it off or if you feel the battery life is shorter than it should be you do have options.

  • You can turn off Find My, just know that you can't turn it back on if you lose the device. It has to be on before a device goes missing to work.
  • You can Contact Apple for support and service to check the status of your battery. Batteries are consumable parts and will be used over time and use.

Hope that helps.

Take care.

Thanks for the response. Although I appreciate the response, that does not explain why this only started happening in January. I have used Find My for several years and January 2023 is the first time this has happened to my phone. I started using the current iPhone SE 2022 in April 2022, and Find My has always been on from the very beginning and it did not drain the battery like it is currently. As mentioned before, I did try turning off Find My for a few days and the issue persisted. Perhaps it is not "Find My" and could be a bug in the battery status app, but I lack the expertise to confirm that. My iPhone still shows that the battery is at 100% capacity.

Would you say that my best next option is either live with it or contact Apple support for a solution?
