Retouch tool not working

I have a mac mini that upgraded to Monterey. Recently the retouch tool stopped working? Any ideas what I can do?

Mac mini, macOS 13.1

OK, youngster, give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.

There have been several different problems reported here, starting with macOS 11 Big Sur and persisting to macOS 13.1 Ventura. In what way is the retouch tool not working for you?

Is it disabled or do the adjustments not persisist, or are the adjustments not applied on the exported images?

For some users it helped to restart the Mac in safe mode, as described here by OT: Retouch tool disabled in photo on Ventura - Apple Community

Thanks for your reply. I can't really figure out this retouch tool. It works sometimes and then the very next photo imported from my iPhone, it does not work. It behaves the same way with exported photos. I did restart my mac mini and that did not solve the problem. Any more ideas? Is Apple aware of this problem? I am a photographer and I use this tool all the time.

Have you meanwhile updated to macOS 13.2.1 and tested on the most recent update?

For me, Retouching is working well on this system version and the exported versions are including the chaanges.

I have not. I am 80 years old and IT scares me! Every time I update "stuff" is different! I will be brave and do that and let you know if that helps. I thought maybe that might be the answer...here's hoping that works as it has for you. I will let you know after I update my mac.

Thanks for all your help leonie, I did update my mac as you suggested, but the retouch tool works on some photos and not on others all photos taken with my IPhone 8 plus. I have an IT guy I can call upon. I am disappointed you and I were not able to correct this tool. I do not like to over use my IT friend!

Okay Old Toad, you have just overwhelmed this Youngster! But I have an IT friend who I will show this great info you have shared with me. He is good - real good! If we decided to invest the time with your suggestions, I will let you know how it went and if it solved the retouch tool that works sometimes and sometime not! This will not happen just yet. Thanks for taking your time to share your genius with me - that is really what I call my IT friend, a genius!
