How to use an Imac Pro as display for a MacBook Pro

I have an old (2017) iMac Pro and just bought a new MacBook Pro.

Question: How can I use my old iMacPro just as a monitor/display for my new MacBook Pro?

Idea:

Connect the old iMac Pro with the new MacBook Pro (preferably by cable).

The new McBook Pro will have all apps and files and will be the main machine to do all work. It also will be closed and sit on my desk behind the iMac.

The iMac will be used as display only and I will control everything through its display, magic keyboard and magic touch pad.

How can this be set up?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.13

Hi,

Target Display Mode is old technology, your iMacPro is not able to be external display. Following article could help your question.

What has always been available is Screen Sharing: where the screen of one active computer is displayed in a Window on the other computer.

Has target display not been replaced by more modern solution?

I managed to get "mirror display" to work, but there I cannot control the MacBook from the iMac.
