Time Machine Icon not showing at top of screen

Can someone tell me how to get the Time Machine icon back on the top bar, or how to check the progress. I saw an answer to a similar question saying to tick the box on system preferences but I can't even find that. I have a system settings for Time Machine but there is basically nothing there.

Go to System Settings > Control Center. It's under Menu Bar Only.
