VPN App Hack?

I was searching something on Google and a VPN App Installation popped up. When I hit Close and/or Cancel, the App appeared, urging me to "Get It". I didn't get it but it doesn't close out. It keeps reappearing. What is this?

That’s because on spam phishing pages and popups “close” and “Cancel” aren’t what they say they are; instead they are “Accept and reload this page” Anyone can label a button as anything they want and have it do anything they want. What you have to do is close the page WITHOUT clicking or tapping anywhere on the page, then clear your history and cookies.

And it’s one reason I don’t use Google as a search engine; almost any other search engine is safer. DuckDuckGo is the safest.
