new macbook is slow

So I just bought a 2021 macbook pro. m1 max chip, 32gb of memory and a 1tb ssd. I'm using 300gigs of that storage so far.

I migrated my previous macs storage which was a 2014 16gb memory, and 1tb ssd over to the new one.IT was having lots of issues with speed as well. I loaded up a fresh instance of Reason 10, and began making a new song. As the session gets bigger I'm noticing more lag happening when scrolling around.

From my understanding these macs are supposed to perform exceptionally well, but mine isn't so much.

I'm also experiencing some slow downs recording with pro tools, and logic pro as well. The cpu ran around % 140, threads at 170, and idle wakeups at 2966.

Not sure how to interpret this info

I'm wondering if instead of migrating my old mac over with all the files, if I should start my new mac fresh, and download everything again with a clean slate. Idk if some files could be causing this slow down so maybe that could help, but with 32gb, and the chip I shouldn't be having these issues.

I'm sure its some fault of mine and I'm doing something wrong.

Thank you.

Please let me know what further information you may need and thanks again for the help guys.

Hey lucidife,

We'd be happy to help out. It definitely sounds like whatever was causing issues on your old Mac, may have been brought over to your new Mac. It'd definitely be best to test it out set up as new and manually move over just the files you need instead.

Then, set up your Mac and test further. For help redownloading any apps associated with your ID such as Logic Pro or others, review these steps:

How to redownload apps on Mac
1. Open the App Store on your Mac.
2. Click your name in the sidebar, then find the app that you want to download. If you don't see your name in the sidebar, click Sign In, sign in with your Apple ID, then click your photo in the sidebar.
3. If you use Family Sharing, you can see a family member's purchases when you go to Purchased by and choose their name.
4. Click the download button  for the app.

Most likely you have some third party software installed. Usual culprits are anti-virus apps, cleaning/optimizer apps, or third party security software....none of which are needed on a Mac. If you have any of these types of apps installed, then uninstall them by following the developer's instructions. To look for possible software issues, run the third party app EtreCheck and post the report here using the "Additional Text" icon which looks like a piece of paper.

Also, disconnect all external devices in case one of them is causing a problem.
