New apple watch and home key

hi all, I had home key added to my old watch. it was all good. then I replaced the watch with a newer model. now I cannot add the home key to my new watch wallet. the watch just said it cannot add the home key and I may need to remove the key from apple home kit and re add it. I really don't want to do that as my phone is still working with the home key. the lock is the schlage encode plus. anyone with similar situation and was able to add the home key to a new watch?

Hello somethingsomethingsomething1,

Make sure that you set up your home key through the Home app on your iPhone. If you set it up initially using a different app, you'll want remove it and set it up from the Home app. Here's how:

Set up a home key
1. Add a supported lock to the Home app.
2. Choose an unlocking option.
Express Mode: Unlock the door just by holding your iPhone or Apple Watch near the lock.
Require Face ID or Passcode: Hold your device near the lock, then use Face ID or Touch ID to unlock it.
3. Choose automations such as Lock After Door Closes and Lock When Leaving Home.
If the lock you add supports HomeKit, all residents of your household receive the home key automatically.

Take care.
