Cannot verify server identity

I keep getting this for m.hotmail.com but I dont have a hotmail email. Ive never accessed it from my phone either. Anyone have any clue what this is about? Ive gotten it for my actual emails before after changing a password but not updating it on my phone email app.

Thanks for the reply. I actually called apple last night and got it semi-resolved. Something from my outlook email was messing up and creating an error. We deleted and put it back in manually through the other option versus the outlook option. But I cant sync my contacts and calendar through outlook. Lady said to call my internet provider or email provider to see what the issue is.

Hey there Stephpack,

That is a strange message to see, especially since you don't have a Hotmail account. We'd like to rule out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. When did this start to occur?
  2. Where exactly in your iPhone does this message show?
  3. Is the entire message just 'cannot verify server identity for m.hotmail.com', or is there more to the message? Also, let us know if you see any next steps/prompts in the same message.
  4. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  5. Since you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.3.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!
