Prevent automatically switching between desktops while clicking on the application icon on the dock.

I didn't get what is the use of this option. When I turn it off if I click the application icon(on the dock) it's still switching to the other desktop(in which I have another open window of this app) instead of opening a new window on the current desktop. This behavior drives me crazy because sometimes I work on desktop #1 and throws me on desktop #N which can be somewhere at the end(If I use multiple desktops). Also, when I am sharing my screen it's very awkward because accidentally I am forced to share some unfamiliar content with people that are not related to it.

Is there any way to prevent such behavior?

Which applications exhibit this problem? So far, I only encounter a problem if the application is Safari. If Safari has an open window which is hidden in the current desktop, when I click on the dock, instead of bringing up the hidden window (as, for example, it does do in TextEdit) the OS inexplicably switches to another desktop (and it's always desktop 2, for some reason). Is that what is happening to you? This behavior is new to Ventura. Feedback - macOS - Apple

I am a software developer and I have multiple apps open such are IntelliJ, dbeaver, textmate, notes, terminal, slack, messenger, etc. Also, I work on several projects with different people. So when I am trying to prepare 1-2 desktops for that particular work and I want to present something to relevant people if I click the icon (i.e terminal to execute some git command or textmate to write some notes) on the dock if this app doesn't have a running window on that desktop it throws me somewhere on the irrelevant desktop.

Do you mean the "Window" item from the main menu? I know how it works but it shows all open windows of that app and not only those that are open under that desktop. So if I have 10 chrome windows open among spaces I have to parse by eye every time to find the desired window. So it's not helpful in my case. Also, during sharing everyone can see the titles of my open windows

The preference setting you indicated with your original post asks the OS to behave as you described. Yes?
