yubikey queston

I have been dabbling with yubikeys on macs for a while now and finally hardware keys are receiving some attention from Apple. I have a usb-c key and a usb-c plus nfc key. I realise that nfc only works with iphones and not ipads, but should the usbc connection work with an ipad mini 6 which has a usb-c port? The documentation does not cover this scenario, only iphones being connected via a lightning to usb adaptor.
