How to update my Mac from OS X 10.5.9 to macOS 10.11?

how do i get and install an update 10.11 is what i need or higher i guess please tell me what i need to do?????????

That Mac model can run up to macOS 10.13. However, 4 GB RAM is low even for 10.11. It will start using the hard drive for RAM storage and that will slow the whole thing down more. You can look into upgrading the RAM and a place to start is https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/8566DDR3S8GP/ because they also have install videos. Still, some would question if it is even worth it because a 14 year old computer is gong to be slow no matter what you do to it. The highest macOS you can run is still no longer supported by Apple.
