Calls break up and sound like a robot.

Since I bought a second hand 8 plus my calls have been garbled (robotic) every third or fourth call . I was with Virgin (O2) and thought the problem lay with them but I recently moved to Lebara (Vodafone) and the problem is still there. The call starts well but within 30 seconds the voice becomes robotic for another 30 seconds before becoming clear again. After another 30 seconds it breaks up again. The fault seems to be with the phone rather than the telecom company; I have cleaned the speakers and microphone and followed other adivce (WiFi Call, Airplane mode etc.). Signal strength is always good.

Thanks for reaching out,

It sounds like you're having some issues with the audio quality during calls. We can help.

From what you've described you've narrowed down the possibilities quite a bit. We can't say for certain if this is a hardware issue or a network issue, but here's some steps you can try to find out:

  1. Try recording a Voice Memo. When you play it back, does it also sound robotic? If it does, then it is likely a hardware issue and you can Get your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch ready for service and then Contact Apple for support and service to see your available options.

2. Try using the iPhone in different locations to rule out the possibility that you are connecting to a cellular tower that is having an issue. When you use your iPhone at home or work, you'll likely always connect to the same tower, and the network will keep behaving the same way. If you stop hearing the issue connecting to other towers, you may need tower with your cellular carrier.

Give that a try, and see if there is any improvement.

Take care.
