How do I dismiss the "follow up" email in mail?

This is a previous user’s question, which I had as well. That thread is now locked but the answers to it were at best incomplete. The user did not ask how to disable followup but how to dismiss a follow up suggestion. They were told the latter was impossible. For the record: on your phone, you dismiss a followup suggestion by swiping left on the message in your mail app list and tapping “ignore.”

I am not sure why I have made you so angry but I’m sorry for any lack of clarity. As I said, I found a locked thread with incomplete and incorrect answers. I had the same question and found the answer nowhere else. Then I came across it by sheer accident, so I thought I’d post the original question with an answer that worked for other people seeking support. If that’s not allowed I’m sure someone with power will delete this—perhaps you.

this is the original thread: How do I dismiss the "follow up" email i… - Apple Community

as you can see one person tells the user how to disable followup, not what they were asking; someone else tells them there is no way to dismiss a followup notification, which is untrue. Just trying to get information out there and did not see another way.
