Update Apple ID needed

I have a new iPhone 13 Mini and it keeps telling me to “update Apple ID settings” and sign in, saying that some services will not be available until I do. When I do sign in and go to my settings there is no indication as to exactly what needs to be updated. I have re-entered my information, restarted and even powered down my phone and also redone the other saved settings/factory settings to no avail. The message returns every day, and sometimes even later on the same day. How do I make this annoying problem go away? Also, my wife got a new iPhone 14 on the same day as me and hers has never done this.

iPhone 13 mini, iOS 16

Read the document:

Manage Apple ID settings on iPhone - Apple Support

- Make sure you are signed into your account. You said you weren't signed in and this might have prevented your device from doing something and hence the "update" message.

- Verify payment method(s) and billing address as described in Add a payment method to your Apple ID - Apple Support . Items in red have problems.

- If you're using other Apple IDs with services such as Messages or the App Store, make sure those are signed in too.

Other things to try:

- Check that there isn't an issue with Apple's servers: Apple - Support - System Status

- Try restarting your device.

- Check your software is up to date.

If you still have questions or problems:

To contact Apple, click here --> Choose your country or region - Official Apple Support

Select your country, then a product. If you don't see one that handles your issue then keep experimenting with selections until you reach one that gets you a chat session or a telephone call and get the representative to redirect you.

Hey there cpwciii,

We'd like to help by first ruling out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. When did this start to occur?
  2. Where exactly are you seeing this message within your iPhone?
  3. Sometimes unexpected behavior can be resolved with a restart: Restart your iPhone
  4. We see that you have iOS 16 installed, but the latest version is iOS 16.3.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

  1. About several months ago.
  2. It is a small numeral 1 in a red circle within the "Settings" logo on the home screen.
  3. I am currently downloading and installing IOS 16.3.1 and then will do a restart -- AFTER getting rid of the current message about "update needed."
  4. OK, iPhone updated and restarted and message is currently gone. I will let you know if it reappears and then we can go on from there.
  5. Thanks, cpwciii
