Copying iCloud Documents to MacBook Finder Documents

My wife discovered that her MacBook's Finder Documents was suddenly empty (and doesn't know why). She is backed-up on iCloud... but prefers to have her docs on the MacBook. What is the best—and safest—method to copy her iCloud docs to the laptop *and* also keep those docs on iCloud?

Hi Tom Straw,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

If your wife is looking to copy files from iCloud Drive to her Mac, follow the steps below.

  1. "Click iCloud Drive in the sidebar of any Finder window.
  2. Press and hold the Option key and drag the file to a new location."

If your wife is looking to copy files from iCloud.com, follow the steps below.

  1. "Sign in to iCloud.com.
  2. Open iCloud Drive.
  3. Find and select the file.
  4. Click Download  at the top of the page or double-click the file. The document downloads to your default downloads location."
