AirPods Pro 2nd Generation hissing

When I'm using adaptive transparency my new AirPods Pro II hiss a lot. So I don't want to use that feature. (Sounds like white noise.) Regular noise cancellation works great, total silence, as does no suppression at all. I read an earlier thread, and reset the AirPods as suggested, to no avail. Anybody have another solution other than returning them, or living without the adaptive transparency feature?

Thank you for the reply David Clark 2!

Since the issue persists, let's follow these actions which may help resolve unexpected issues with your AirPods:

  1. Make sure that you have the latest software on your connected iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac.
  2. Check that your connected device is nearby, and there's no wireless interference or obstructions between you and your device
  3. Listen to audio from a different app to see if the app causes the issue.
  4. Reset your AirPods by following the actions here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro - Apple Support

If the issue persists after completing those steps, reach out to Apple directly to investigate:

Hey there David Clark 2,

We understand you're hearing a hiss on your AirPods when using Transparency. We'd be happy to help you troubleshoot this.

Check to see if you have Background Sounds enabled by going to Settings > Accessibility > Audio & Visual > Background Sounds and switch it off. Check to see If the hissing continues with this setting turned off. Learn more about this setting here: Play background sounds on AirPods - Apple Support

1. Wear your AirPods, and make sure they’re connected to your device.
2. On your device, go to Settings  > Accessibility > Audio/Visual > Background Sounds, then turn on Background Sounds.
3. Set any of the following:
- Sound: Choose a sound; the audio file downloads to your device.
- Volume: Drag the slider.
- Use When Media is Playing: Adjust the volume of the background sound when your device is playing music or other media.

Kind regards.

Thanks for that. If I had accidentally turned on background sounds, which I hadn't, that could be the problem. As you suggested I experimented with turning them on, then off but there's no change. I'll probably just use the AirPods with the transparency feature turned off. It's a good idea but not well implemented. It seems the amplification of surrounding sounds creates a hiss.
