MANUAL SOFTWARE UPDATE:

Hello apple community. I've been struggling with this for a week. I started using an iPhone 8 that hasn't been updated for a few years now meaning its still running on version 12.1.4.

My issue is now when I try updating it to the latest version it says "iOS version does not support wirelessly updating to latest version. Please connect your device to iTunes on a computer to update to the latest software".

I've always used android so I am very new to the apple community. I do have a laptop BUT its not a Mac book and I assume I need a Mac for this. If anyone knows what to do in the situation please reach out, I really need help. Thank you in Advance.

As you already know, there are several updates/versions between iOS 12 and iOS 16. Unfortunately, you cannot go directly from iOS 12 to iOS 16 over a Wi-Fi Network. You will have to connect your iPhone 8 to a computer and then update it as indicated. More information below:

You need about 6 GB device storage and good Service & Wi-Fi.

If they are On, turn Off Hotspot & VPN.

Charge the battery > 70%.
