Advancd Data Encryption: can I use with iOS/iPadOS 16.3.1 and macOS Monterey 12.6.3?

Hi, here's my question:

I have an iPhone 13 Pro Max and an iPad Pro M1 11", both running OS 16.3.1. However, my MacBook Pro can only run macOS Monterey 12.6.3 as the latest version, as it's a mid 2015 model.

If I turn on ADE for my iPhone and iPad Pro, will that mean that I cannot create or restore backups encrypted with ADE on my MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey?

How to turn on Advanced Data Protection for iCloud - Apple Support

"You can turn on Advanced Data Protection on an iPhone with iOS 16.2, iPad with iPad OS 16.2, or a Mac with macOS 13.1. Turning on Advanced Data Protection on one device enables it for your entire account and all your compatible devices."

Hi Limnos, thank you.

I understand your answer, but my question is specifically about how backups on my MacBook Pro would be affected by ADE which is enabled on my other two compatible devices.

Do you know or can you advise me please what will happen to backups on my MacBook Pro if I do enable ADE on my iPhone Pro Max and iPad Pro, both of which are compatible, but my MacBook Pro is not a compatible device?

Does this mean that I must have all my Apple devices compatible before I can enable and use ADE?
