Loss of the Whole family's Music Library when the family organizer changed his region

Hi.

My family and I lived in Russia and we had a family subscription AppleOne. I moved to live in Serbia on a permanent basis, and decided to change my Apple ID region.

Everything went well, except that the rest of my family also changed the region. But they still live in Russia and they need a Russian Apple ID. One of the most unpleasant problems associated with this is that everyone has lost their music libraries. My wife is a musician and it's a disaster for her.

Question: if my wife leaves the family now (sounds crazy!) and changes the region of Russia again, will she get access to the entire library that she has been collecting for years?

Hi zakharsk,

The music will not return when switching back to the previous region. When switching regions, that requires you to cancel your subscriptions. When canceling Apple Music, you lose access to your iCloud Music Library Content, which results in the music being cleared from Apple's servers. Check out that information here: Legal - Apple Media Services - Apple

When your Apple Music membership ends, you will lose access to your iCloud Music Library, including iCloud Music Library Content that is uploaded to iCloud Music Library servers.

Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Kind regards.

Hi zakharsk,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with Apple Music Family Sharing. We'd like to try to help.

When you move to another country, it's expected that you'll change the Apple ID region so you can use all features in your new location. Were you and your family members using the same Apple ID? We ask because it sounds like they lost all access to their music when you signed out.

When using Family Sharing with purchase sharing, family members must be in the same Apple ID country or region. If a family member changes their Apple ID country or region, that person might lose access to other family members’ purchases, and installed apps that were shared from other family members might not work. See the Apple Support article Change your Apple ID country or region.

If you were using the same Apple ID, this could be expected behavior. However, if you're not, we'd like to try to look into this further.

As for your wife getting her music back if she signs back in, she may be able to view her library again depending on the time frame of when she lost it, but she will likely have to rebuild her playlists.

Please keep us updated so we can continue to help if we can.

Take care!

We have three people in our family group. Everyone has their own Apple ID, we didn't use one Apple ID for everyone.

I am the organizer of the family group. And when I changed the region for my Apple ID, it automatically changed for all members of the family group. Now my wife and daughter have the region of Serbia, although they did not do anything for this and are in the Russian Federation.

We all have playlists displayed in the music library right now, but they are all empty. Thus, my question is: if my wife leaves the family group now, having lost all subscriptions and applications that are associated with the group, and regains the region to the Russian Federation, will the songs return to her playlists?

The change of region was 18/02
