Verify purchase on child account

when I am trying to allow a purchase on my child’s iPhone with Family Share it prompts me verify the credit card. A verification code is sent to my phone and I enter it on my child’s phone but it will not let me select the blue ‘verify’ button on the top right, only the back option will work. Any suggestions? Apple Pay works just fine on my phone so I know the card info is correct.

So after contacting support and spending a couple hours on 2 calls, we were finally able to get it working. The solution appears to be one of the following:

1 - Log out of the child account on that phone, reboot, log back in and it reset everything to allow it to work

or

2 - You cannot get it to verify when processing through the game app, you have to go through Setting/AppleID/Payments and Shipping and verify it directly through there. Then go to the app and purchase works just fine.

Hope this helps anyone that might have a similar issue.

Finally cleared up the inability to verify payment method here. I had multiple payment methods on my account.

I first turned off “require permission to purchase” as others pointed out. Then (this is the important part for me) remove all other payment methods except the primary one. Next, check the settings app on the child device under (Child Name) > Payments & Shipping until it reflects only the single method. (You still can’t click verify from here). Finally, you have to actually make a purchase on the child device. The verification screen will pop up automatically at that time.

I’m not sure what methods you’ve tried but I actually JUST fixed this issue on my daughter’s iPhone a few minutes ago. I’m not sure if this will work but my husband’s phone had his Apple Cash as his first payment method to be charged. After going through all of these fix attempts, I went to his payment settings and made the debit card first. Once I did that, her phone asked for verification and then I entered it and it worked. Sorry if that doesn’t help but we just spent hours on this and that’s what worked. So frustrating!

2024 and I experienced the same issue with the iPhone 14 (mine) and iPhone 12 (my child's). I just added my child's phone number to my list of "trusted phone numbers," which is located under two-factor authentication on the Sign-In & Security option in the settings on my iPhone 14. *Note: You may have to toggle off "Content & Privacy Restrictions." before you can do this. I hope this helps someone!

Here is the path to follow:

Settings -> Apple ID, iCloud, Media & Purchases -> Sign-In & Security -> Two-Factor Authentication -> Trusted Phone Numbers -> Edit -> Add Trusted Phone Number -> Done

I had this same issue trying to set up an ipad for my kids account - i resolved it by adding a another payment method to my own account (the existing payment method was working fine, not sure why i needed to modify anything)

So, simply adding another payment method and then reordering my old one as the default again resolved the issue. Theres no way i would have thought I needed to do that. Seems like a bug.

Hey there jenmark678,

We'd like to help.

Try updating the payment method on your account and device first, just in case there's an issue with the payment. Use the steps here for your payment method:

1. Open the Settings app.
2. Tap your name.
3. Tap Payment & Shipping. You might be asked to sign in with your Apple ID.

If you need to update, add, or remove a payment method continue with these next set of steps:

4. Tap Add Payment Method, enter the new payment method, then tap Done.
5. Tap Edit.
6. Tap the red delete button next to the old payment method, then tap Delete.

If you need to change or update your Apple ID payment method - Apple Support

Once you check these details, go ahead and try approving this purchase from your child again.

Take care!

Hi, I think I figured it out. I was on the phone with Apple support when I figured it out myself. Does your child’s iPad have a passcode set? My kids did not because she was not able to open it with a passcode, but once I enter a passcode that was simple for her to remember I was able to download apps from the App Store. Try that and let me know. Should work.
