Hi jrmaneking,

From your post, it appears that audio is being transferred to your AirPods during instances where you don't expect them to be paired.

It's possible that automatic switching is enabled if that's the case. Switch your AirPods to another device describes this feature and how it can be disabled:

"Turn off automatic switching

If you don't want your AirPods to switch automatically, you can turn off automatic switching on your iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple TV.

On your iPhone or iPad

  1. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > Bluetooth. Alternatively, you can go to Settings > [your AirPods].
  2. Tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods in the list of devices.
  3. Tap Connect to This iPhone [or iPad].
  4. Tap When Last Connected to This iPhone [or iPad].
  5. To turn on this feature again, tap Automatically.

On your Mac

  1. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, then click Bluetooth.
  2. Click the Options button next to your AirPods in the list of devices.
  3. From the Connect to This Mac menu, choose When Last Connected to This Mac.
  4. To turn this feature on again, choose Automatically.

On your Apple TV

  1. With your AirPods in your ears and connected to your Apple TV, go to Settings > Remotes and Devices > Bluetooth.
  2. Turn off Suggest Nearby AirPods."

Regards.
