Songs not syncing between Mac and iPhone

Even though I have Sync Library and Automatic Downloads enabled, Many of my songs don't sync. I can play them on my Mac, but not my iPhone (or sometimes the other way around). 2018 Mac Mini (Ventura 13.2.1), iPhone SE 2nd gen (iOS 16.3.1).

Most of them are grayed out. Now my music library is all screwed up. It no longer sorts my songs into folders. They're all just hanging out there naked. How do I fix that?

Hello John Haley1,

Try the steps here to see if they resolve the issue:

Turn Sync Library off, then turn Sync Library back on.

On a Mac:

  1. Open the Apple Music app.
  2. Choose Music > Settings or Music > Preferences.
  3. Click the General tab.
  4. Deselect Sync Library to turn it off. Then select Sync Library to turn it on.

We hope this helps.

Cheers!

Hey John Haley1,

We'd be happy to help out. To clarify, are you using Apple Music or are you referring to purchased music in the iTunes Store? Also, make sure your iPhone isn't in Low Power Mode and connected to Wi-Fi. It will not sync if this feature is enabled.

We hope this helps out.

Take care!

Hello John Haley1,

Thanks for clarifying for us.

Earlier, you mentioned that Sync Library is turned on. Is it on for both devices? If not, you will need to turn it on for both.

Also, when did you originally sign up for iTunes Match? The reason we ask is, once you sign up, it can take a bit of time for everything to sync. If this is the case, you will want to give it a little time, so all music is accessible from both devices. You can learn more here: Subscribe to iTunes Match - Apple Support

You will also want to make sure both devices are associated with your Apple ID. You can learn how to do that here: View and remove your devices that are associated with Apple ID purchases - Apple Support

If none of that helps, can you let us know if all songs show on both devices but won’t play on both, or do the songs just not show on both devices?

Kindest regards.

Sync Library is turned on on Mac and iPhone. I've had iTunes Match for over a decade. Attaching two screenshots. In the one showing folders, all the folders are empty. In the other one, these are all music files, but not in any folders. HELP!
