Purchased movie shows "This type of content is not currently compatible on your device. To play try again using an Apple Device."

My apple TV died, so I've been watching my extensive library via the Apple TV app (which I pay for each month) and Roku. Most of my movies play just fine, but today I tried to watch "The Devil's Advocate," which I own, and it won't play from my library anymore unless I play it on an Apple device. Sorry, television isn't apple. It will play on my iPhone, but I can't watch a movie I paid for on a service I pay for each month suddenly. There were no restrictions on the film when I purchased it. Why is this the case, and how do I fix it without spending $250 on a new Apple TV streaming box?

Just wondering if you had this resolved? I purchased the same movie today on 28/03/2023 and same issue. Am trying to play from the Apple TV app on 2 different x Samsung TV’s, my PS5 app and Xbox Apple TV app. Says ‘this type of content is not compatible’.

The subscription is for Apple TV+ content, not the app itself, and isn’t needed for buy or rent titles.

All of the iTunes Store movie catalog that is listed in your library on that Roku device should be compatible on Roku (except for ‘iTunes Extras’ bonus content).

  1. Verify that the Roku Ultra system software is up-to-date.
  2. Verify that the Apple TV app is up-to-date, if that isn’t set to be managed automatically.
  3. Try to delete and reinstall the Apple TV app.

Else contact the iTunes Store staff for further assistance.
