why has my magic mouse become jumpy and sluggish

I've only had my Mac a couple of months, but the mouse suddenly became sluggish and jumpy. What's going on with it and how can I correct it?

I found that even a tiny bit of “fuzz” in the mouse’s EO sensor recess caused VERY erratic operation.

So DO make sure that the recess underneath the mouse is COMPLETELY clear.

Might not be causing your issue, but DEF easy to check.

The mouse is only a couple of months old, and the sensor looked spotless but I rubbed it with a glasses cleaning cloth and now it's fine. You're not exaggerating when you said "tiny bit" because the sensor couldn't have looked cleaner to the naked eye. Thanks. I had tried a number of other more complicated remedies without luck. From now on, this is what I'll try first.

Yes I have repaired, changed settings, upgraded from Monteray to Ventura and even removed a couple files from the library and restarted, so the mac would replace the preference files. The funny thing is that it jumps on the normal side of my mouse pad but is fine on the rubber traction side. The problem there is the mouse pad slides all over when I try to use the traction side and has to be held down with the other hand. It wasn't doing this until the last couple of days. The problem actually started when my magic mouse power got to low levels. I've recharged but still had problem.
