Since upgrade to Ventura 13.2.1, my iMac is at times really slow after clicking a hyperlink or application icon.

I would make sure you have plenty of SSD drive space available that is not used. Also, try booting into safemode which runs system diagnostics and repairs problems it finds. (Also, check if you are running any 3rd party optimize utilities like CleanMyMac, or Anti-Virus Software. None of which is needed and get in the way of macOS from performing as it should.)

Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

Thank you again for following up.

The Report came through just fine

A - The Operating System and any Third Party software installed on this computer looks pretty clean.

A - It should not be causing any issues this computer is experiencing.

Q - Problem: Computer is too slow

Q - Description: Computer is extremely slow and frequently loses connection with the Bluetooth mouse, trackpad and keyboard.

Major Issues:

Q - Kernel panics - This system has experienced kernel panics. This could be a sign of hardware failure.

A - what I do see is this computer may have a Hardware issue  as outlined by above from the Report .

A - I must preface by saying may have  and does not mean definitive does have a hardware issue

A - Also, I am not a Hardware Expert so would suggest as a precaution. Have the computer evaluated by the Professionals who have the Special Hardware Software and Expertise to diagnose the issue and offer possible solutions

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2019)

Drives:

Q - disk0 - APPLE SSD SM0128L 121.33 GB (Solid State - TRIM: Yes)

Q -  disk0s2 [APFS Fusion Drive] 120.88 GB

Q - disk3 - APPLE HDD ST3000DM001 3.00 TB (Mechanical - 7200 RPM)

A - Fusion Drives are sometime prone to these types of Hardware Issue

A - Factor in, Fusion Drives, even with the 7200 RPM Mechanical Rotational Spinning Drive will always be slower that an all SSD Configuration.

A - Each time New Data is saved to the Drive the Spinner Drive must rotate to find empty space before it is written to the Drive. Not so for SSD Drives

A - It is the nature of Rotational Drives.

A - This will be the biggest Bottle Neck in getting any type of Performance even if More RAM was added to the computer. That would only allow the computer to keep for Applications loaded into Memory

What I mean is, while I am in Notes, the links are there and work properly. But when I copy them from Notes, and paste it here into in the communities, it strips out the link data and only pastes the text.

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

In this example, I created the Safe Mode Link in Notes but pasting it here it is then gone.

@P.Phillips, when you provide these type of responses (with several lines of info), including links, ("Safe Mode", "Setup Users, Guests", EtreCheck, etc) do you have to create each link individually every time you respond to someone, or is there a way to copy and paste the info, including the links? I searched this topic but didn't find anything. Sorry for hijacking this post.

Firstly, thank You 😀 for asking.

You are the First to inquire me on this

Yes there is a easy way to prepare some of this " Boiler Plate " things.

I usually try to " tweak " to make it personalized to the Occasion or User

Prepare the Info ( text ) in Notes.

For the Links in Notes , surf to the Specific Website

Back in Notes, Choose the specific text and refer to image below

I did Safe Mode. Initially the Mose clicks were very slow--actions were "blocky". Mouse and touch pad lost connection at first. Had to wait a while for them to reconnect. While in Safe Mode I played a solitaire game, and where normally card movements are instantaneous, they were slow at times and again blocky or jerking motion.

I restarted, which took much longer than previous normal (during which lengthy time the cursor became the SCD*) and then I played solitaire again--same thing, jerky motions of cards, sometimes the *SCD (spinning colored disk) would appear and after some seconds the intended action would finally ensue. When clicking on icons in the dock, they do not load immediately, but instead do the bouncy-bouncy action and eventually load.

I appreciate your interest in my computers affliction.

I am finally getting back about this problem. I ran Etrecheck and am posting the report. I must be dumb--don't know how to use the Additional text icon or where the 5000 character limit ends?

EtreCheckPro version: 6.8.1 (68024)

Report generated: 2023-03-22 22:52:57

Download EtreCheckPro from https://etrecheck.com
