Hardware damaged during screen repair

My son smashed the screen on his iPhone 11. We paid for a replacement and when we got it back the Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and up volume button didn’t work. They have told us that those things breaking after the repair were like a “bruise” and can happen after the fact but were related to the initial screen breaking even though all those things worked when we dropped it in for repair. Can anyone advise as to whether or not this would be correct?
