iPhone XR Playing Music Through USB, But flashing Cannot Play

So I have an aftermarket radio in my truck. I plugged my phone in today and it says cannot play but it plays my Apple Music only sometimes and in other vehicles it doesn’t play. My moms phone and brothers hooked up just fine and no issues. I tried cleaning the charging port, checked the cord and what not, but my phone is the only one that wouldn’t work. What is wrong with it? Is something broken in it? I’m just at a loss here and it’s very annoying. Also might note, just updated to 16.3.1 but that was after I tried it in the truck and it still says cannot play.

Do you get a specific error message when you try playing Apple Music? Do you have an option to connect by Bluetooth? What type of phones do your family members have?

Were you able to follow the actions in the article we provided? Those steps may resolve unexpected issues.

Also, to further isolate the issue, please let us know the following:

Does this occur wirelessly using Bluetooth and using a cable or just using a cable?
Does this occur with all music or specific music?
Do you notice any issue with other apps or just the Apple Music app?

I followed all the steps and had the same issue. It doesn’t have a problem with Bluetooth only the usb cable so far. I don’t think it’s just Apple Music itself but I’m not 100%. I don’t have Apple CarPlay, it’s just the usb itself. I think I might have something broken in my charging port

It’s the weirdest thing! It gives me no message on my phone but reads across the screen as “Cannot Play.” The odd thing is, it plays the music but it doesn’t allow me to use any controls on the radio itself. My mom has an iPhone 11 and brother has a 7. I just updated to 16.3.1 and it didn’t help. I’m wondering if something is possibly broken in my XR itself and that might be the problem? It does the same thing in my moms truck (Toyota Tundra) and dads truck (Chevy 2500 HD) but no other phones have the problem.

I cannot connect to Bluetooth on my truck because I put an after market radio in it. It didn’t have the option for streaming music (It’s a 2012) so I put one in that had USB and Aux. Haven’t tried Aux yet but I ordered an Aux cord hoping that using that function may work.

Thanks. It sounds like a great plan to isolate the issue to the USB port when you have the 3.5mm auxiliary jack. Let us know how it goes.
