$1,419 for all liquid damage repairs on MacBook Pros.

Kind of a bummer since the laptops are about $2,000 new. 75% repair cost to fix sticky keys and maybe a partially fried screen?

They will refuse to do lesser repairs. So if your spill only needs a $500 screen replacement etc. They will only offer you one option: pay $1,419 to get "liquid damage repairs."

As a consumer, it's really hard to stomach an arbitrary and opaque $1.5k price slap.

You can't lie to them about this either, because they install the liquid contact indicators and will check.

Imho it seems like the best options are to never bring liquids around MacBooks, or don't buy MacBooks in the future again? (AppleCare has a poor brand reputation known for gotchas).

Not sure why Apple treats their paying customers like this. Not sure I want to switch from droid to iphone now.

The MacBook Pro is a lightweight, portable computer that can run on batteries. Being portable, it can easily be subjected to multi-G forces daily, just by being moved about in a completely ordinary way. This is extremely stressful to electro-mechanical equipment. The display is made of glass, the the internals are very likely to die if liquids are spilled on the keyboard.

Because of this, you should ALWAYS purchase the extended warranty coverage for such a portable device, regardless of whether you intend to move it about.

If you choose Not to buy the extended warranty, you are making the decision to cover the cost of repairs beyond the warranty period yourself, out-of-pocket.

(Usually that sort of gambling is regulated or taxed, bit not in this case.)
