Delete stubborn locked file: Workaround
Just thought Id share a solution to stubborn locked files that wont delete from my desktop. I tried everything suggested to delete an old locked video file from a training program I ran - permissions denied, no ability to change permissions (all greyed out when looking at file info), terminal prompts didnt work to change lock status, force deletion didnt work, safe mode deletion didnt work. Apple suggested a complete HD wipe and restore (just to remove a 500MB video file).
Someone suggested creating a file with the identical file name and type - then saving in the same location. This triggered the "File already exists - keep both or replace" - and BINGO - replacing deleted the locked file. Then I simply deleted the new video file I had just made. Finally!
