My iPhone is blocking receiving messages from non-contacts.

I was trying to log on to my Amazon account. It sent a verification number, but a text message was not received after several attempts. I have the same issue with my healthcare provider. I know that several months ago I had blocked advertisements from being posted to my messenger account. I can not find where to make that adjustment. I have an iphone 11.
