I have a MacBook Pro and have used Apple Mail for years. 2 weeks ago I started receiving this message when sending an email "The sender address .................. was rejected by the server mobile.charter.net." I haven't been able to send an email since then. I can still receive emails. Any ideas as to how to resolve this? I'm very familiar with the SMTP settings I'm supposed to be using.

The connection doctor now shows that I'm connected to both SMTP and IMAP. Green lights on both. Thanks for your help on this. I got into a chat with Spectrum today and we finally figured out that my SMTP needed password authentication and I had Authentication marked as "none". Once I added password authentication I could send emails through Apple mail. I appreciated your help on using the mail connection doctor and double clicking on the status light for server information.
Thanks. I just did that. It shows I'm connected through IMAP and I am receiving emails. And I see the SMTP settings but they're what I'm using but I'm still not connecting through the SMTP.

Does the Apple mail wizard agree with your sending credentials?
Many email providers especially AOL have changed their login credentials. you may need to go look at their (universally awful) support pages.
My provider is spectrum. I've never used Mail Wizard and having trouble finding it.
I think I'm close since the connection doctor shows green lights on both incoming and outgoing servers, but when I go to send an email it immediately goes to "outbox" and then I get the error message I sent in my previous email.
Mail > Window > Connection Doctor ...
... and click on the red light for any (sending or receiving) Server. This takes you directly to the settings for that Server.
the Apple web sites appear to be under major re-construction. Things have been erratic.
