Apple pencil 1 is useless after 24months

hi all,

I'd like to share with you my experience with Apple pencil 1th gen.

This nice pen stopped working just 2 weeks after warranty. (it is vissible by iPad, connecrted, fullt charged etc)

I was speaking with apple consultant and with other man in local service.

Conclusion is like: Irreparable - if it breaks for some reason, you can throw it in the trash. For such money it is really not worth the price of the device. The only solution is to buy new one.

I am really disapointed

iPad Air, iOS 12

The Apple Pencil is sealed. Other than the user-replaceable pencil-tip, that should be routinely replaced whenever visible wear is evident, there are no serviceable parts. You should note that while a Pencil is relatively robust, the metal transducer element that interacts with the iPad screen (nominally protected by the replaceable tip), can be damaged if the Pencil is dropped onto its tip - or through application of excessive lateral pressure.

Otherwise, if the Pencil is used normally and the battery is never allowed to fully discharge, both the first and second generation Pencil can be expected to last for many years. If damaged, or if the tiny Li-ion battery fails, the only remedy is replacement of the Pencil.

Speaking of personal experience, my own first generation Pencil is still working well after five years of light use; likewise, my second generation Pencil is still going strong after three years.

I haven’t posted a template answer at all; I had attempted to concisely outline what can be expected of an Apple Pencil, potential issues, and an explanation of limitations in context of repairs.

Clearly you are unhappy that your Pencil has an issue - for which the only available option is replacement. If you have benefit of an active AppleCare+ plan for your iPad, your Pencil would likely benefit from this coverage and cost you only a small replacement charge.

If you don’t have this extended coverage, outside of warranty the full cost falls to you. Due to the sealed construction of the Pencil, disassembly requires total destruction.
