Problem with mouse shortcuts and show desktop function

I have the exact same issue as mentioned here ( Problem with mouse shortcuts and show des… - Apple Community ) but I cannot reply in that thread somehow.

I use a wired mouse and I configured "show desktop" shortcut on one of its buttons (button 5), but it doesn't work. It used to work just fine with my previous macbook. I've another mouse button set up for the mission control shortcut and it works fine.

The problem is not with the mouse key since the key works for other shortcuts.

I updated my mac to latest version but the problem persists.

Hey Sruj,

While we still recommend reaching out to the manufacturer, to help narrow this down, you can test the issue in a new user account. A test user account will let you know if it's system-wide or only within your user account. That helps to know where to focus your efforts. If it's only within your user account, then you know where to focus your troubleshooting. Here's how to test:

  1. Create a new user account with administrator privileges using these steps: Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support
  2. Sign out of your current user account by selecting the Apple menu > Log Out [username].
  3. Sign in to the newly created account and set up your preferred shortcuts, and test.
  4. After noting the results, sign out of this account and back in to your normal account. You can either keep the account for future testing, or delete it with guide in Step 1.

Let us know what you find.

Take care!

This looks a lot like avoiding the issue than solving the issue. Atleast give an attempt. If I have an issue with a 3.5K USD macbook, I can atleast expect a decent investigation for something that's not working.

Also, I don't think there is any issue with the mouse, it worked just fine with your previous Macbook I owned.
