Intel MacBook Pro 16" crashing every time Mission Control gesture is executed on trackpad

Just noticed this. The computer usually operates attached to external monitor in clamshell mode. Mission control works fine in that mode when launched from mouse.

When operating in laptop mode, every time I perform a swipe up gesture to launch mission control, the computer hangs. Tried creating a new user account, problem was reproduced there as well. Tried launching in Safe Boot mode, and I could NOT reproduce the problem. I've ran all updates, I'm on the latest OS 13.2.1

Anybody have a similar issue?

Thanks

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

disconnect all third party peripherals that are not mission critical when testing the issue on your Mac

you can get a good look at your System config. and reveal conflicts or issues, you can download/run this trusted utility https://etrecheck.com

Hi, thanks for the reply.

I created a new test user and was able to immediately reproduce the problem.

I booted into SafeBoot and was NOT able to reproduce. Rebooted back into normal mode and the issue is still there.

you just installed 2023-02-17 Malwarebytes for Mac (1.0) ?

You have to tell me if this was before or after the issue—I have no way of knowing this.

Uninstall it and test.

I did see it crashed once, but it did set off any red flags here.

you certainly do not need it running all the time.

this well could be macOS issue, a firmware issue, or a hardware issue— which I can not explain

CPU CATERR — is a Catastrophic Error

It is curious your external monitor..

You might try keeping it disconnected— reinstall the macOS on top of your existing macOS and see it resolves.

Thanks, attaching EtreCheck Report here in case anyone can decipher anything.

I don't have any 3rd party Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus. All peripherals are disconnected.

Nothing jumped out immediately...

Did you try—

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account Change Users & Groups settings on Mac - Apple Support

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

—A SafeBoot How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support will sort many anomalies

This test will tell you if third party interference; most* extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

Takes a bit longer to get to the login screen, does a quick disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, font cache, etc., third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled.

Login and test. Reboot  as normal and test.  Caches get rebuilt automatically.

unplug all third party peripherals when testing

I'll try removing it in that case.

Any way to trace this hex code back to a process that may be causing the crashes?
