Removing a Certificate that I never installed.

The certificate is named, Cisco Umbrella Secondary SubCA. When researching what it is I kind of figured out that it’s just some search blocker that’s usually used for education purposes to block things out that the educator doesn’t want. I have a guess as to where it had come from. About a year ago in my last year of highschool, I had connected to my school wifi and considering the school wants to limit the amount of things that their students are allowed to search on their chrome books, I assume they installed this cisco program to their network(I have no clue how networking works). However whenever I did connect to this wifi I did notice that there were limited options I could look up on my phone when using the school wifi so I just had swapped back to my data, but when I did I realized it had the same search options as the school wifi did. Before connecting to this school wifi, this was never a problem. This is my own device, my own everything . The only way I can get my own search results once again is by using a VPN which bypasses it, but it’s slow since it’s a VPN so it’s kind of a hassle to just deal with since this is something that should have never happened to begin with.

I just really want to figure out a way to remove it/uninstall it. Below is an image of what the certificate is I think or at-least the issuer.

Hey there anlactsun,

We'd like to rule out some possible causes, along with confirming more details to better understand what's happening:

  1. Connecting to a Wi-Fi network wouldn't automatically install what sounds like a profile on your iPhone. When you did connect to your school's Wi-Fi, do you recall needing to uninstall anything on your iPhone, or even had to have their IT department install something on your iPhone?
  2. Just in case, we also wanted to provide the steps for removing a configuration profile from your iPhone: Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone
  3. Are you having any issues with browsing the internet in Safari?
  4. If you have a compatible iPhone model, the latest version is iOS 16.3.1. You can verify this within Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then Update your iPhone or iPad.

Cheers!

anlactsun,

Do you still have the network as saved on your iPhone? If so, try removing that as it may have been installed while connecting or installing their profile. How to forget a Wi-Fi network on iPhone, iPad, or Mac - Apple Support

To forget a network that you've joined before but aren't currently using:
1. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.
2. Tap Edit in the corner of the screen to see the networks known to your device.
3. Take either of these actions:
Tap the delete button , then tap Delete.
Or tap the info button  next to the network, tap Forget This Network, then tap Forget to confirm.

Also, through Safari, verify there aren't any extensions connected to it that defaults the type of search: Get extensions to customize Safari on iPhone - Apple Support

Tap the Page Settings button on the left side of the search field, then tap Manage Extensions. Select or deselect each extension to turn that extension on or off.

Remove an extension
1. Swipe down on the Home Screen, then search for the extension you want to remove.
2. Touch and hold the extension icon, tap Delete app, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Take care.

Hi! Unfortunately I do not recall installing anything or if I did it was a while ago so I most likely forgot. I’ll try updating to the latest version of IOS.

I was doing a little of searching myself and I found the same thing where it said to go to my settings and delete the profile, but unfortunately there isn’t a single profile to delete.

Im not sure why there isn’t any profile, but please let me know as soon as possible! Thank you
