Are both devices using the same Apple ID for messages?

To use iMessages on your MacBook, you need to set up the Messages app. Here's how:

1. Open the Messages app on your MacBook.
2. If you've never used Messages on your MacBook before, you'll need to sign in using your Apple ID. If you've already signed in on another device, you may be prompted to enter a verification code that Apple sends to one of your other devices.
3. Once you're signed in, you should see your iMessage conversations. You can send and receive messages just like you would on your iPhone or iPad.
4. If you want to start a new conversation, click on the "New Message" button in the top left corner of the Messages app. You can then enter the name or phone number of the person you want to message, and start typing your message.

Some other things to keep in mind:

• You can use the Messages app to send both iMessages (which are free when sent between Apple devices) and SMS/MMS messages (which may incur a fee depending on your cellular plan).
• If you have multiple Apple devices signed in to the same Apple ID, you can receive iMessages on all of them. However, you can only send iMessages from your MacBook if it's connected to the internet.
• You can customize your iMessage settings in the Messages app preferences. For example, you can choose whether to receive read receipts, change your message bubble colors, and enable/disable certain notification settings.
