Can you open new Apps in Current Stage?

Loving the new Stage manager, however there is one behavior of it that is just driving me through the roof. Whenever you open a new application, it gets put into a new stage all by itself. Thats nice sometimes, but Im often building stages of multiple applications together. Thus I would love if when opening a new application, it would add that to the current stage I am viewing, rather than a new one altogether. At the very least, this could be a stage manager setting that could be toggled (ie "open applications in new stage")...

Tried changing this setting to no avail either. See two subsequent screenshots.

  1. While in Safari, opening Chrome with spotlight

2. Chrome opens in its own stage entirely. Safari is now hidden. This is what I do not want to happen.

I think that what you are looking after is to change a setting in Stage Manager for windows for one application: instead of "all at once", choose "one at a time". Then try starting a new application and see that it goes indeed into the same "stage".

Here is a shot. l had just opened two new applications (TeXShop and Skim), and there they are.

Mine is set to "All at Once" in Settings>Desktop & Dock>Stage Manager>Customize>Show windows from an application. Applications still open in the stage I'm in if I open through Spotlight.

I wonder, if the OP is opening them by going to a folder, if turning on Settings>Desktop & Dock>Stage Manager>Customize>Desktop Items would make a difference?

I usually open them from my dock but thought Id try this way to see if there is a difference. Looks like it's not for me. Opening an application via spotlight still opens that application in its own stage as the only window visible (all other apps shoved to the side).

I'm sorry. I don't know what else to tell you. It does work for me. I don't know that I did anything to make it work that way. I just turned it on.

I don't know that it should have anything to do with anything but, my settings for Mission control are, from top to bottom, Off, On, Off, On.
