Weather app Radar/Map Broken

When I click on the map to expand it's size all I see is a bunch of diagonal lines over the map and I don't see the precipitation/radar activity.

I can see the rain/snow in the static image, but when I click to expand the map all I see are diagonal lines.

When I activate a different layer, such as Air Quality or Temperature, I see the color coded information, but not with precipitation. Zooming in and out doesn't help either.

And the strangest part is that this is happening with Weather on both MacOS Ventura and iOS. See attached pics for more.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

Apple has had some issues with this from time to time.

It was more from the weather servers they have associated with the service rather than the Application itself.

Below is screen shot - not video capture to illustrate, though it is work in my location

May what to do a Status Check for current updates on all the Apple Services

I see Apple Mac Apps Store, Podcasts and a few other services are Down.

I can testify than during the lead up to Xmas 2022 - there waste issue and it was the Servers used by Apple for weather.

On the 3 Apple computers I own and operation, 1 M2 MBA, 1 M1 MBA and 1 M1 Mac Mini the Weather Application is functioning as per design

2 of the 3 machines were upgraded from Big Sur to Monterey and now on Ventura 13.2.1

The M2 came with Ventura 13.0 was updated to 13.2 then to 13.2.1 and it too work as per design

Go figure

1 - Restart in Safe Mode. This will perform a Disk Repair, clear cache files and only load Apple Software, extensions and fonts. The boot up will be slow and can take some time - Normal.

2 - Safe Mode will also eliminate Third Party Software, extensions and drivers from loading. It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

3 - Does the issue present in this mode ?

4 - Sometimes a Safe Boot followed by a Normal Boot will just put things right.

5 - If not - there could be something in the main User Account playing up. To further isolate this - Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac. Then log out of the Main User account and log into the dummy account and test again if the issue persists.

6 - If the issue is present in the dummy account - then, this appears to be a System Wide issue on the computer.

7 - Download the Application Etrecheck directly from the Developer.

This is a Diagnostic Tool that makes no changes to the computer.

It makes a coherent and readable inventory of both the Hardware and Software used on the computer

The application is free or paid from added features.

P.

By using Safe Mode and logging in as the Guest User, I fell I've tried 6 of the 7 steps with the results I listed. I am hesitant to use 3rd party software from an unknown source, but after taking steps to safeguard my info, I'm now running the Etrecheck app you mentioned.

Here are the results from the Etrecheck app, there's a ton to read through, but my inexperienced mind doesn't see anything in it that would lead to the Weather app precipitation radar not working on 2 different devices.

P.

I was able to run Safe Mode and turn on a Guest User account to test those theories. Safe Mode only resulted in a map that was unable to load. See attachment.

Using the Guest User made some, albeit inconsistent, differences. Various zoom levels brought different results. The initial thumbnail was the same, it showed precipitation.

Zooming in resulted with a small square loading, but the rest of the map is the diagonal lines.

Zooming out resulted with more squares loading, but an incomplete precipitation display.

Continuing to zoom in and out resulted in various squares loading, but never a complete image.

This is all I had time to do, but I'm not sure what conclusions I can draw from these experiments.

Thank you for the feedback and the time to run in Safe Mode

Safe Mode is only 1 of the 7 step outline earlier

The results your machine has present even in a Guest Account would seem semi normal.

Safe Mode It will only load the Minimum amount of Core Apple Processes to allow the the computer to function at a reduced Level of Performance

It will be interesting to see the results aft moving down to and testing in some of the more advance Trouble Shooting steps

Right now Monday Feb 27, 2023 @04:17 AM EST we are expecting a Snow storm coming up over Chicago and over The Great Lake into Southern Ontario

Otherwise the Weather Application and all available Data presented in same application is running as expected

Thanks for the quick answer.

The servers vs. app reason does make sense. My experience is that the radar has not worked once since I upgraded to Ventura on either of my devices (MacOS or iOS). And that may just be a coincidence but it's so consistently broken that I thought it was the app.

If it has something to do with Apple's services, it's been broken, for me, since the Ventura upgrade. Makes me think I have a setting wrong (or corrupted) somewhere. And I have no idea how to reset those, other than to wipe/reinstall the OS and hope it fixes the issue. And I'm not inclined to do that at this point.

Same issue here.

I noticed P. Phillips states no issue with his devices, however the screenshot is more of a zoomed out view. Zoom in more to a city view and you will see boxes where the animation titles should be.

this occurs on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, iPad Pro, M1 iMac, and M2 MacBook Pro. Deleting the app and reinstalling on all devices, reboot and reinstall same issue. This is an issue only with the precipitation radar zoomed in. Zoomed out will make the tiles load.

In the Context of where this Question is appearing in Ventura for Apple Computers.

Some may not see value in attempting the Seven Steps previously mentioned but at same time none of the suggested steps will cause harm to either the Computer or the User.

It may or may not offer some insights on what is actually occurring on the affected computer as it relates to the Weather Application

A wee update: the problem (for me, at least) seems to be with the 'next hour' forecast. When I switch it to 12 hour forecast, all is well (on all of my devices). Heck, I can even zoom in/out while the 12 hr forecast animation is running and it works fine. So perhaps it's an issue integrating Dark Sky's short term predictive info with Apple's Weather app? I'm assuming the 12 hr forecast comes from this or that national weather service (I'm in CAD) and/or some other more 'global' weather info services. I *think* the 1 hr feature is a Dark Sky algorithm-y thing (hope that's not too 'techie' a term). ;-) Side note: I say this b/c if you toggle back and forth between the two forecasts, the results are a bit different. The most annoying aspect is that the 1 hr forecast's lack of info is always at the location you're interested in. Maybe we should all check the weather for a location approx 75km away from the locations we want to see? ;-)
