Epson Perfection V600
I have not cracked the code to scan with the brand new Epson V600. The SilverFast 8 download has major glitches with my Mac OS 13.1
Am I missing something? Is there a solution?

Silverfast has released a driver for the M1, but not the M2.
SilverFast doesn't release any scanner drivers. You get those directly from Epson (or other supported manufacturer's site), and they must be installed before SilverFast can access your scanner.
You have to use the legacy x64 Intel driver under Rosetta 2…
No you do not. SilverFast 9 is a Universal app.
Update. I splurged on a new MacMini M2 and boy, was that a mistake. Silverfast has released a driver for the M1, but not the M2. You have to use the legacy x64 Intel driver under Rosetta 2 (an Apple utility that runs intel based software on the new Apple chips). You definitely need to read the help files and watch the Silverfast how to videos to figure all this out…and it’s a bit of an Easter egg hunt to find the right stuff on the SE website.
HOWEVER: it doesn’t work with the current version of SilverFast SE Plus!! SilverFast tells me it’s a known bug and they plan to address it in the next version release. They implied that the base version of SE doesn’t have this bug.
Very frustrating
Salutations Coo6539lCat,
It looks like Epson has some drivers and support available for macOS 13 as well, which may be helpful to you. Here’s a couple links to their help site -
macOS Ventura 13 Support | Epson US
Epson Perfection V600 Photo | Perfection Series | Scanners | Support | Epson US
We’re also including a couple articles on troubleshooting scanning issues on your Mac.
Scan images or documents using a scanner and your Mac
Solve scanning problems on Mac
• Make sure the scanner is plugged into an electrical outlet and turned on, and that its cables are securely connected.
• If you previously saw a scanning option and you don’t see one anymore, try deleting the scanner (or multifunction printer) and adding it again.
• If you’re pressing a button on your scanner to perform the scan, try using an app instead, such as Image Capture or Preview, or go to the scanner manufacturer’s website to see what other apps are recommended. See Scan an image using Image Capture.
• If the scanner is connected to the USB port on an AirPort base station, connect the scanner to a USB port on your Mac.
• If more than one user is logged in to your Mac, log out every user. Then log in again and try to scan.
Thanks.
For the Epson Perfection V600, VueScan requires a working Epson scanner driver in order to support this scanner.
Interesting. I have no issues scanning with my V600 using SilverFast 9.1.6 on my M2 MacBook Air.
Someone else recently posted a similar issue. It appears SilverFast 8 is not compatible with Ventura. As a comparison, I'm using SilverFast 9 with an Epson V850, and it works fine.
Before upgrading the software, have you installed Epson's drivers for the scanner?
I was able to use Silverfast 8 SE with Ventura, but decided to buy the $50 upgrade to SE 9 Plus, and I must say, it's been worth it.
I posted elsewhere, my biggest beef with the v600 is the 300 second timeout. I can't see anyway to increase that and it's a PITA since using silverfast to optimize post processing often takes longer than that after the pre-scan. I've sent Epson a question about that but not holding my breath.
Just to close this thread: SilverFast SE Plus still does not function well on an M2 even under Rosetta2 (as noted by others, this is likely a driver issue and Epson has not responded to a question about if/when an update might be available). Silverfish may release an update for the Plus version that fixes the bug, but I have a deadline for this scanning. Note: this bug is ONLY for the Plus version...I'm told that the base SE and top end Ai version work OK.
So...I've returned the M2 (I do appreciate Apple's generous return policy) and am back to batch scanning with the V600 on the Intel Mini.
Apparently, it is ONLY the SE Plus package of version 9.1.6 that has this glitch (huh?!)
I'm told that the base packages, that is, SilverFast 9 SE, and the higher versions (HDR, Ai...), are ok on an M2, but the SE 9+ version has to run under Rosetta2 (it does, but freezes about every third scan), which is something from Apple that you have to hunt for and install separately.
Also, they say that all packages of 9.1.6 work on an M1.
Makes no sense to me but what do I know.
I did hear back from Epson, but their answers was “no, can’t increase the timeout beyond 300s in any driver or software”. Anyone have a hack in Terminal to find and change that parameter?
Also know that if you purchased a scanner that came with SilverFast SE 8, you can upgrade to SilverFast 9 free of charge within two months of purchase.
There is also VueScan.
