Keynote Dark Mode makes slide editing difficult

Is there a preference for the background in the slide composition window? (if not, HOW IS THAT NOT POSSIBLE?)

I make a lot of slides with black backgrounds. When Dark Mode kicks in, the background in the slide viewer turns basically black, and I have no way of seeing where the edges of my slide are. I was assuming I could go to preferences or View and change the window background... but... nope? nowhere? WTF? Am I missing something? Or do I have start my ritual complaining to apple support?

Creating the shortcut is a helpful idea. But that's a workaround. It defeats all the benefits of dark mode when working at night just for one non-cooperative window.

Its idiotic that you can't change the background of the canvas window, which has been possible in almost every image program since the dawn of time. Changing the color of my SLIDE instead of the background is not acceptable. I was hoping I was just missing the right place to change this, but if its currently not possible then its off to complaintville I go.

Maybe another tack: is there any setting or preference where you can exempt programs from dark mode?
