[Solved] "No HDMI signal" for DELL screen and Macbook Pro
Gear:
Macbook Pro 13" 2017
DELL P2319H
I faced a problem when suddenly, after months of successful work on Macbook Pro and DELL external screen, monitor shows "No HDMI signal message", although setup was not changed at all.
Recently the screen was dead for 2 weeks and I decided to try:
- resetting computer
- resetting screen by keeping power button for about 8 seconds
- different HDMI cable
- use Display Port cable
Surprisingly, last solution (using DP cable) allowed me to extend my screen, but image was very blurry because of low resolution (about 1280px). So it was not a solution.
But after I changed to old HDMI cable everything started working fine again, and going to DP also worked fine (correct resolution).
Solution for "No HDMI signal":
- Use Display Port cable.
- Now you can use HDMI cable as usual.
I think DELL screen software gets bricked and you need to unbrick in order to get back HDMI signal.
Too bad either APPLE or DELL was not interested in debugging the issue and helping theirs customers, including me. Although the fault is on DELL here.
I hope my solution works and will be helpful for other guys like me. Cheers.
