HDMI to TV issues

I purchased a HDMI adapter for my MacBook Air and every time I try to use it, nothing shows up on the TV screen except my wallpaper. This at least tells me the adapter works, but it seems like there's something in my setting preventing my browser from showing up. I have the updated Mac OS 13.0.1 downloaded. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would try going into System Settings > Displays and at the bottom of the right panel, (scroll down if necessary) until you see the "night shift" button. then press and hold your keyboard's "option" key. you will see the "night shift" button turn into the "detect displays" button. then click the "detect displays" button and see if TV then shows up.
