Apple Watch GPS with GolfLogix

I have been using GolfLogix on my iPhone for several years. On my old Apple watch, I realized that the distances on my watch were actually measured from my iPhone which is usually in my cart. I now have an IPhone with GPS but not cellular. Will the distance for this app on my watch, now be measured from my watch? This is particularly important for those CPO days or chip shots close to the green. Thanks!
