New hard drive not accepting password

Hi. I have had a new hard drive fitted to my 2013 MacBook Pro (Apple approved dealer) which died recently. I have successfully reinstalled from Time Machine via an external drive.

Logging into this locked computer is the problem.

The start screen asks for name and password - which I know. I wrote them down when I did the final back-up to Time Machine. But they are rejected after several attempts. I even tried the previous credentials without success.

I also have a note of the Recovery Key.

Can anyone help please?

Thanks.

Hi there Lady Carrington,

If your login password isn't working on your Mac, you can work through the suggestions in this link to reset it and regain access to it: If you forgot your Mac login password

If you run into any issues attempting to reset your password, work through these steps to see if they resolve the issue for you: If you can't reset your Mac login password

Take care.

Good afternoon Sparks,

Firstly, thank you for responding to my request.  I have taken your advice and ‘sort of fixed it’.  I list below the Disk Utility screen and attach ss. I am not sure if I have duplicated the new setup, as there is so little free space indicated.  I chose English as the language, but it changed to Italian and I had to use another computer to translate.

  1. Senza Titolo (without a title) APFS system volume 0S.11.74. 20G1120. 120.99 gb.
  2. Senza Titolo. APFS system snapshot APFS, OS 11.7.4. 20G1120 120.99b
  3. Senza Tiolo - Dati. APFS Data volume  OS 11.7.4. 20G1120 120.99b shared by 5 volumes.

I have successfully changed the password and logged in.

Also, I have made a full back up on an external drive for Time Machine.

I would appreciate your advice as I am uncertain what exactly I have set up. Possibly I have duplicted when I tried to change the language, I don’t know.

Thank you.
